Slackware install bug
How do I report a bug in the Slackware install process.
I recently ran across this during a 10.1 install.. but I seem to remember
it happening in the past. It's not a big thing but it can be a bit annoying
and frustrating until you realize what is happening.
I usually do my Slackware installs from a hard disk partition. The full path
of the Slackware package directory (from doing a wget) might be something
like this ->
/mnt/carroll.cac.psu.edu/pub/linux/distributions/slackware/slackware-10.1/slackware
This gets a bit awkward to type .. so in the uppermost directory I make a link
such as Slackware-10.1 or just 10.1 that points to this long path (above).
Now.. for normal accessing the Slackware packages I can just type --> cd /mnt/10.1
and there I am in the Slackware package directory.
Now.. the problem is.. during the install, when it asks for the source location, if I
type in /mnt/10.1 it is quietly ignored and/or complains that it can't find the
source directory. The only way I could select my sources was to type in this
big long full path name (above).
I must have wasted a good 10-20 minute before I finally decided to try
the actual directory instead of the link.
I would call this a bug. I was thinking of looking at the install script and see
if I can identify a fix but I haven't really had the time. It is on my list of things
to do .. someday.
Anyone else ever run into this problem? Is it a know problem?
Any chance of getting it fixed?
