softbart - you totally rock for finding this. I was digging, but missed this posting. I see the disk partitions now in fdisk -l. cfdisk also finds all partitions and properly labels them [including the Acer recovery partition that when removed usually ends up making a brick ;-]

I will back up all the data on the drive I need and do a slack 13 install tonight. Too bad RH and fedora make it so hard to keep a /home partition on the disk so you can easily wipe the OS part and reload things [thus keeping ~/ intact. Ahhh... Clean install is best methinks...

excuse for the language.

The installation works fine but than??...... No /dev/sda??
When we look to the solution of @maruzin we are very close.
The problem is the module "pata_sch"
I think that the module is not loaded in the hugesmp.s kernel.

Zo I have make an initrd within the "pata-sch" module.
Now starts Slack just we wanted.

How to do it:

Start the boot-disck/usb again and follow the path off @maruzin.

Then:
#mkdir /mnt/newslack
#mount /dev/sda7 /mnt/newslack (for me)
#mount -o bind /proc/ /mnt/newslack/proc
#chroot /mnt/newslack
#mkinitrd -c -k 2.6.29.6 -m mbcache:jbd:ext3ata_sch -f ext3 -r /dev/sda7

edit /etc/lilo.conf
image= /boot/vmlinuz-generic-2.6.29.6
initrd=/boot/initrd.gz
root=/dev/sda7

#/sbin/lilo

Dit works fine for my.

greats,

Theo
