Slackware error message after Installation
After installing Slackware 9.1 and rebooting PC I logged into Slackware and started X but received the graphical background with the following error message;
'A crash occured in the panel. Please report this to the xfce4-dev@moongroup.com lis. Meanwhile the panel will be restarted.' It then has an okay but which despite clicking does not do anything. The error message will not clear. Does anyone have any ideas how I can get rid of this? I can't do anything but select the options you get when right clicking on the Desktop. Cheers. Mark. |
After installing Slackware, you need to configure X as it does not do this during the install.
As root do: xf86config |
Thanks for this, I'm used to Red Hat, Fedora & Mandrake and all of these configure during install. No Matter what settings I select, however, X will still not work. Now I am not even getting any kind of display at all. I get errors as follows;
(EE) No devices detected Fatal Server error; no screens found. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers Mark. |
Hardware type? Are specifying the correct syncs for the monitor and or also the correct driver for the type of videocard your using?

For the xfce problem I think you will need a package
called startup-notification. You will find it in the gnome directory. |
In another posting on here I found reference to running xwmconfig which I hadn't done and by running this and setting the default I am now able to startx. However, I can only run Windows manager at the moment as KDE and Gnome are not installed. How do I now install these as it appears I am unable to mount the cd rom drive to get the packages? An help would be appreciated.
Thanks Mark. |
I seem to have the same problem, but it is only the Cholesterol-free Mac-like Xwindow(?) that produces such error-message.
