Slackware and SATA

Well, I decided to finally install Linux.

As an aspiring web developer I needed a place to work from (without having to upload to test out my scripts), and I knew Linux could help me out.

I did some searching around, and narrowed it down between SuSE and Slackware. Even though Suse looks good, I decided Slackware is what I wanted to use.

So I download the install discs, and start to install Linux...whoops! It gets to installing drivers on the hde and then locks up.

I checked around and found out that some kernels don't support SATA without customizing your own and building it from scratch...well, I can't/don't know how to do this and I was wondering if anyone could give me a hand?

If you are willing to lend me a hand with this, I'd be greatly appreciative.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Hunter

check the slackware forum at linuxiso. someone recently created a SATA enabled kernel there and sent a floppy to another user. maybe they could be convinced to upload it somewhere

^^yes you could do that, but it would be easer if you would just choose a sata enabled kernel you want to boot up with CD1 and a sata enabled kernel you want slack to install on your hard drive
