Slackintosh PPC install issue

Hello,

I'm new to linux though I have some nix experience, I thought I'd take a look and see where linux is these days so I've downloaded the slackintosh 12.1 dvd, however it won't boot at all.

I've checked the md5 sum of the image I downloaded and it's fine, I've also downloaded cd 1 but I have the same problem.

I have an Aluminum Powerbook G4 1.25GHz.

When I hold down the c key it won't boot from the optical drive, when I try force it from OpenFirmware an error of some kind flashes up too quick to read and then a 'no entry' sign is displayed on the gray startup background.

I've tried burning in Disk Utility (has worked for ubuntu and centOS) and using drutil from the command line.

Here's what I've done to check the disk against the iso and the md5 matches the list at slackintosh central...

iMac$ echo $(( $(ls -l ~/Desktop/slackintosh-12.1-dvd-install.iso | awk '{ print $5 }') / 2048 ))
1355029
iMac$ dd if=/dev/disk3 bs=2048 count=1355029 | md5
1355029+0 records in
1355029+0 records out
2775099392 bytes transferred in 706.311985 secs (3928999 bytes/sec)
c5c80bf2fb2964b8e386804998c53f39
iMac$ md5 ~/Desktop/slackintosh-12.1-dvd-install.iso
MD5 (/Users/vause/Desktop/slackintosh-12.1-dvd-install.iso) = c5c80bf2fb2964b8e386804998c53f39

Here's the output of diskutil

/dev/disk3
#: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER
0: Apple_partition_scheme *2.6 Gi disk3
1: Apple_partition_map 1024.0 B disk3s1
2: Apple_HFS Slackintosh_12_1 2.6 Gi disk3s2

Seems I'm stuck at the very first hurdle, can anyone point me in the right direction?

Hi,

I would check the md5sum. If you downloaded the cd/dvd iso then be sure to check the md5sum for the original iso. From the cli;

Code:
~#cd /downloadisolocation #cdromiso.iso cdromiso.md5

~#md5sum -c cdromiso.md5 #substitute the correct name to check
If the iso md5 is ok then you should try 'CdromMd5sumsAfterBurning''.

This way you will know if the burn was OK!

This will check the download iso with the known md5sum that you also get with the iso.

BTW, You might try slowing down the burn of the image.
