slack 9.1 install on laptop CD corrupted?

laptop: ibm 570 128ram 6gb

i'm having problems installing slack 9.1 cd1 only on the mentioned aboe unit. i'm picking ext3 for FS, but some people in slackware forum say reiserFS is actually a better choice. any input on that?

during the install i'm getting few messages that the data or media its on is unredable and can't install the package. i was ok with that, cuz i thought I will be able to install the corrupted packages from floppy or something. it happens that one of the packages that it won't install is coreutils which has the basic commands in it like ls, installpkg etc.

solution
i heard that turning off DMA will help to solve this situation, and i will try that when i get back home. what's DMA for. makes HD faster or something? first i'll give a try to new install with DMA on on reiserFS, and if that doesn't work i'll turn off the DMA.

Let me know what you think about this whole situation and is it a common problem? thanks

Regarding the filesystem choice, I've used ext3 for a while with no problems. No experience with reiser.

It sounds like your cd is corrupted. It probably would be easier to re-download or re-burn the cd. Use md5 to verify a good download.

Slackware is great, I just did a reinstall this weekend of 9.0 (only cd I had) and I'm upgrading to slackware-current.

i redownloaded the install image and checked with MD5 and everything but still during the install i had those fatal errors and couldn't install packages from the cdrom, so what I did was to copy the install cd to premounted partition and installed slack from there.
