Slack 11 Xorg Resolution Issue

I just installed Slack 11 with the 2.6.17 kernel. I've been using Slack for 10 years now and I'm stumped trying to get xorg to work.

Problem: With Init level 3, I've got 1024x768 resolution. I went through xorgsetup and answered all the prompts. With startx and KDE 3.5, I only get 600x480. I have tried adding Modes "1024x768" to the Display subsection of xorg.conf to no avial. I compared my Slack 10.2 xorg.conf that worked just fine to the Slack 11 xorg.conf- no joy. The KDE RandR utility is useless here. When I stop the XServer, there are a series of "X Error: Bad Window (Invalid window parameters) 3" messages

I've searched these and other forums and have tried the various suggestions (like adding Modes line to Display subsection). While I was happy with S10.2, I'd really like to have the advantages of the 2.6 kernel.

Thanks for your consideration

Really, I've found the Modes option is rather meaningless ... xserver seems to ignore it in most cases.

After running 'xorgsetup', try adding
Code:

        HorizSync    60
        VertRefresh  75

to the "Monitor" section of '/etc/X11/xorg.conf'

... these are my values, so if your monitor comes with a manual look them up in there. The refresh rate here is 75 Hz, Sync is 60 kHz.

Dude - You rock!

I got on the phone to manufacturer and got the exact specs. Entered them as you suggested and Voila!

Thank you very much from a DT (Displaced Texan who loves Tex Mex cookin')!

Warmest regards

Woody
