Slack 10 custom install ISO: Hey Bonecrusher
 

I am trying to install Slack 10 on a Dell 2850 server and banged against the boot kernel problem.

The server has an IDE cdrom and 6x73 gig drive connected to a PERC4 RAID controller and no floppy drive. The only driver that will work on this model controller is the megaraid2 kernel module which is not in any of the precompiled kernels on the Slack10 install CD.

The easiest solution would be to create a custom install ISO with 2.6 kernel for this card. I googled and read a lot of fine manuals but came up empty on HOW-TO do this. Honestly I could have read it, but glossed over it due to information overload.

How do you create a custom install disk? I know bonecrusher created an ISO for SATA installs and read thru the entire post, but didn't see how he did it.

megaraid should be included with the raid.s kernel

The megaraid support in raid.s is for older cards. This card is a newer one that requires megaraid2 support which when I dug a little deeper is included in scsi2.s (at least in -current)

I looked at the .config file and found it (never looked in those directories before)

One thing that I still wonder about is when you make a custom kernel for the ISO, do you copy your compiled bzImage to the bootdisks/ AND kernels/<name>/ directories?

if scsi2.s has the drivers you need then at the boot prompt just type in scsi2.s

after the install choose the scsi2.s kernel from the cd as your kernel

At the time I tried raid.s, last weekend, I didn't know scsi2.s had the driver I needed. It won't be till this weekend when I get to install it.
