slack 10.1 the usual x and lilo problem...

Hello fellow slackers!
I fell stupid posting this here after reading through x-posts with simular problems, but I still can't figure out what's wrong! Just installed slackeware 10.1 on a dell dimension 8200.

1) I tried to install xorgconfig as root-didn't work, but did install as regular user!?
I try to run xstart @ startup(logged in as root)-nothing happens.
Running as xstart as regular user again, works!? -But my resolution is messed up, and I
can't figure out how to set it right. I am running a 64 nivdia GeForce 2MX /tv out
here is my xorgconfig:

Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen 1"
Device "** NVIDIA (generic) [nv]"
Monitor "My Monitor"
DefaultDepth 24

Subsection "Display"
Depth 8
Modes "640x400"
ViewPort 0 0
EndSubsection
Subsection "Display"
Depth 16
Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
ViewPort 0 0
EndSubsection
Subsection "Display"
Depth 24
Modes "640x480"
ViewPort 0 0
EndSubsection
EndSection

2)Lilo I can run slackware, but my w2k partion will not. I can see the option to choose windows, then it says it's loading windows but nothing ever happens, it stalls on a black screen!? Any time I went though through setting up the lilo file, I get to the end where it says
"loading linux..." something like that, I get a command promt on the bottom I enter the command: /bin/lilo.config (not sure if this is right now, but I used the correct one)
the blue screen still says "loading lilo..."I then have to restart, and the drama starts all over.
As a root I can't get x up, as a user it won't let me change the files. Arrgh...I gotta step awayt from this for a few days. Any insight to this would be greatly appreciated!

Here is my lilo:
# LILO configuration file
# generated by 'liloconfig'
#
# Start LILO global section
append="hdc=ide-scsi"
boot = /dev/hda
#compact # faster, but won't work on all systems.
prompt
#timeout = 300
# Normal VGA console
vga = normal
# VESA framebuffer console @ 1024x768x64k
# vga=791
# VESA framebuffer console @ 1024x768x32k
# vga=790
# VESA framebuffer console @ 1024x768x256
# vga=773
# VESA framebuffer console @ 800x600x64k

# VESA framebuffer console @ 640x480x64k

# VESA framebuffer console @ 640x480x32k
# vga=784
# VESA framebuffer console @ 640x480x256
# vga=769
# ramdisk = 0 # paranoia setting
# End LILO global section
# Linux bootable partition config begins
image = /boot/vmlinuz
root = /dev/hda2
label = linux
read-only # Non-UMSDOS filesystems should be mounted read-only for checking
# Linux bootable partition config ends
# Windows bootable partition config begins
other = /dev/hda1
label = windows
table = /dev/hda
# Windows bootable partition config ends

Change this
[
Subsection "Display"
Depth 24
Modes "640x480"
ViewPort 0 0
EndSubsection
EndSection
]

TO

[
Subsection "Display"
Depth 24
Modes "800x600"
ViewPort 0 0
EndSubsection
EndSection
]

or whatever resolution. like 1024x768 or anything in xorgconfig file.

Excellent! Thank you, that worked!! This is soo much better already, I can see everything on the screen! If anyone had some idea about what's wrong with my lilo, I would be stoked!!

Thanks again!
