Should I recompile kernel 2.4.7 to remove rivafb in order to solve Nvidia issues?

Should I recompile kernel 2.4.7 to remove rivafb in order to solve Nvidia issues?

Details

I have been pouring through all of the Nvidia/rivafb issue-related posts on LQ and from what I believe to understand is to solve my Nvidia issue is to recompile kernel 2.4.7 from my Slackware 10 cd and remove rivafb.

This, as I understand, is the cause and the reason I get a rivafb error message when I try to install the Nvidia drivers for my GeForce FX 5200 Ultra.

Oddly enough, I still get the Nvidia splashscreen and no errors to my log file when I startx.

I just believe that I am not actually 'using the card' to it's potential. I know some post on LQ say to just ignore it, I rather solve the issue.

Thanks for reading this post.

I had the same warning installing the NVIDIA driver on my box - it ran without problems.

I suggest you leave it alone unless you encounter any problems.

Thanks for the information skunkburner.

So am I to assume that since I receive the Nvidia logo when I startx, I am actually using the GeForce FX 5200 Ultra card?
