sata raid0 on slackware

I have the Abit ic7-g motherboard (has silicon image 3112 controller integrated) I've got 2 sata drives in raid0, and i'm trying to install slackware on it. I chose the ataraid.i kernel on startup. I know the SiI 3112 has been supported since 2.4.20, but when I try to fdisk, I can't access the array:

Code:
# fdisk /dev/ataraid/d0

Unable to open /dev/ataraid/d0
# fdisk /dev/ataraid/d0p0

Unable to open /dev/ataraid/d0p0
# fdisk /dev/ataraid/dp0

Unable to open /dev/ataraid/dp0
# fdisk /dev/ataraid/dp01

Unable to open /dev/ataraid/dp01
# fdisk /dev/ataraid
You will not be able to write the partition table.

Unable to read /dev/ataraid/
I'm newbie to this. How do I get slack to recognize my array?

I got the fdisk to recognize my drives (/dev/sda, /dev/sdb), but I can't get it to recognize the array that I set up with the controller. help!

This is bizarre.

sda and sdb are the two drives.
sda1 is the array.

should I just ignore sda/sdb and continue with the install?
