Problem installing Slackware 9.0 on old computer with Sony CDU33a CD-ROM drive
I am trying to install Slackware 9.0 on an old Pentium, 133 Mhz and 16Mb RAM. I am able to boot OK and start the installation using the boot and root floppies, but once I try to select the CD-ROM drive to continue I am told that it cannot be detected.
My CD-ROM drive is a Sony CDU33a. It was supported on old versions by using the cdu31a.i kernel but I noticed that, as of version 8.0, this kernel is not offered in the bootdisks section. I have tried using the old_cd.i kernel as well as the cdu31a.i kernel that is offered with the older versions but neither one will work.
The only solution I see is just giving up and going with one of the old Slackware versions but I really want to be up to date so could anyone indicate to me how to fix this problem? Are old CD-ROM drives just not supported anymore? Thanks.
