I'm a first time slackware user (obviously), and everything installed fine onto my laptop. When I first rebooted after fully configuring, I got a strange error. GRUB tries to load (which is odd in itself, since I wiped my harddrive of the last OS, Ubuntu Linux). Even worse, it gives me an error! "Error 15". What I'd like to know is, what should I do? Must I reinstall my distro after wiping my harddrive again? Or is there a way to stop GRUB from loading immediately?
Any help would be appreciated, I am very interested in getting Slackware working on this laptop! Thanks in advance for any help...
even if u foramt all of ur partions, grub wil saty there because it is in the MBR not on any partiton
but if u perform low level format then the grub will be gome
as in ur case u need to start slackware in rescue mode and install its bootloader on MBR
Thanks, guys. I'll try to install over the boot loader in MBR with LILO first. If that doesn't work, I'll wipe everything with AF's method and put it all back on.
Will let you know if it works...Appreciate the help.
Boot from install disc 1, and run setup again. Choose "Configure" from the menu, and through there you should eventually get to the installing LILO portion. Do an auto-install on the MBR. Once you're done with that, just exit and reboot from your hard drive.
...this is assuming you have the LILO package installed. If you did a full install, it's there of course, but if you manually chose which packages got installed and didn't select LILO, tell setup which filesystems get mounted where again, and go through normal installation, but choose to install LILO only. After this, it'll take you to the configuration, and that's where you'll set it up.
