If you got that far, I don't think drivers are the issue.
Perhaps check in your BIOS for any setting relating to the DVD drive you are using? You're sure you are specifying the right IDE device? Try all of /dev/hda, /dev/hdb, /dev/hdc, and /dev/hdd (or if it uses the other format then ide0, ide1, ide2, and ide3. (I can't recall which way it goes).
Perchance have you got a second CD/DVD drive that you could swap the disc into just before the OS searches for the media?
