Not able to find Source DVD during install

OK total Linux newb here. Figured I would jump in by getting the Slackware 11.0 DVD, because someone said to me,"If you use Red Hat for a year you get good at Red Hat, if you use Slackware for a year you get good at Linux." So I booted the DVD and setup my partitions and everything is going smooth. Get to the Source part of the install and it cannot find the DVD. I tried having it search itself and also manually selecting IDE slave drive but it does not find the DVD? I am assuming I need drivers for Linux to see it, but where would I get them and more importantly how would I install them?

If you got that far, I don't think drivers are the issue.
Perhaps check in your BIOS for any setting relating to the DVD drive you are using? You're sure you are specifying the right IDE device? Try all of /dev/hda, /dev/hdb, /dev/hdc, and /dev/hdd (or if it uses the other format then ide0, ide1, ide2, and ide3. (I can't recall which way it goes).
Perchance have you got a second CD/DVD drive that you could swap the disc into just before the OS searches for the media?
Here's a couple similar looking threads:

Hmm.. Hope this helps; if not, post again or search LQ for more similar threads. Someone will think of something

what kernel are you using? this sounds to me like the 2.4 kernel is not recognizing your drive.

you can try selecting a 2.6 kernel (like huge26.s) during install startup. I think its like F2 to see boot options and F3 for kernel options. I may have this backwards but I think the installer has directions.

Its probably worth trying a different kernel. And to save time you shouldn't need to recreate your partitions.

Hi,

I agree with bioe007, read the Slackware 11 Release note.

OK I see. The installer defaults to kernal 2.4, I can enter a command just before I run the installer that loads the 2.6 kernal. Let me give that a whirl and see if that gets me going.
