no option to install lilo

It has been a while since I used the slack installer (9.1) but I was not given the option to choose my kernel or to install lilo. I am not sure what I missed but I missed something. The installer is different than it used to be. Any ideas would be appreciated.

The installer has changed a bit since 9.1, but not a whole lot (as far as I can recall, at least). It should certainly still ask you about LILO and the kernel, regardless. Were there any errors during the installation? Did the installer say it had completed and tell you to reboot the machine?

Yes the install completed without errors but never asked about lilo. I ran thru setup a couple of times. It asks about mouse drivers and creating a bootable usb which is also new but never prompts lilo install. Weird?

Definitely weird. I've installed slack no less than 7 times in the last month and it always prompts for lilo whether I do it or not.

That is pretty odd. Where did you download the ISO from? Did you do an MD5 check before burning it?

It could be that parts of the installer are missing or corrupt, though I would expect it to have thrown up some sort of error in that case.

I am not sure where I downloaded the iso but I did check them. I would also find it difficult to imagine a portion of the install script damaged but i guess anything is possible.

I indicated there were no install errors but i did not mention that it would not let me set root password. the error was that it could not be written. i gave it little thought at the time but I am wondering now in retrospect.

Sounds like you maybe need a new ISO.
