im trying to install SLAX 5.1, and im not getting anywhere. ive burned the cd correctly, but when i try to boot from it, i get an error, "operating system missing"
Why do you want to install SLAX? Slax is just a live-run version of slackware. If like slax and you want it on your desktop, why don't you just install Slackware? Thats not to say it isn't possiable though. Alot of people install Knoppix onto the harddrive, though I've never met someone who did it with Slax. Google around, it should be interesting to find out how you do it.

Did you check the md5 sum of the CDs? Not to insult your intelligence, but did you burn them correctly? If its saying operating system missing then maybe you've burned them incorrectly. Have you tried booting Knoppix (another live run distro)? Another chance might be that your download was corupted. The md5 sum will tell you whether or not it was.
