my bios chip died suddenly and the motherboard replaced
p4 845g chipset.my slackware 10.2 install which was woking fine refused to boot with changed motherboard.
i have replace my cd writer with a newer version of samsung.i changed the old 3button wheel mouse with optical mouse 3button wheel.these were the changes in hardware.while starting slack 10.2 i got the hw detect got stuck and then it did not go futher even after 20 minutes.
all other linux installtions in my hdd worked fine except simply MEPIS which gave a similar error and stopped working.
so i reinstalled slackware 10.2 but three times i tried to do it all the time the mouse wont work.
mouseconfig works fine and shows correct entries in xorg.config.
what do i do

i tried with my old ps2 3button wheel mouse it works.wasted time.
i found out by this exercise that the new optical mouse i got is usb connected.
i ran mouseconfig and selected usb connected mouse.
now 2 buttons are working but not the wheel
i copied the suggested input device mouse settings to xorg.config
but it does not work wheel still not working.
any help is welcome

Did you make the changes with ZAxisMapping in xorg.conf?

yes i tried everything possible

and later i found in the package an adapter for ps2 port to usb connector
i connected the optical mouse to ps2 port it works fine now.
the bare i kernel probably does not support usb
i now want to install bare acpi.i kernel.foe apm support and acpi may be usb support.
how can i do that short of reinstall?

you can use "xorgconfig" and choose the right answer for the questions and I think bare.i can support the usb.

Or I think you can install 2.6 kernel for a try.

If you use bare2.4.3x kernel for apm to work(if acpi is not used) look at /etc/rc.d/rc.modules and uncomment the /sbin apm line. Check its usb sections and uncomment /sbin lines needed.Also for parallel printer support do same.
lsusb will tell you what usb device is setup. Many are having problem with wireless mice. Happy slacking.

try googling your wireless mouse model with slackware install. Some wireless mice (like MS wireless mice) have problem with 2.4x kernel but do better with 2.6x kernel. The SW10.2 install includes test26.s(2.6.13)as option as long as you remember to install 2.6.13 modules from cd2-/2.6.13 directory. Have fun.
