making bootdisks / rootdisks

maybe i'm just retarted...

i have made the bare.i and install.1 and install.2 bootdisk / rootdisks.. for slackware 10

it boots up from bare.i just fine, and it says DON'T SWITCH ANY DISKS YET
then it goes to Loading vmlinuz.........
then 'Boot failed: please change disks and press any key to continue'

i put in install.1, the floppy reads for a second, and just stops... nothing...

this is for a Gateway P5-133Mhz that i just want to use as a router.. but it wont boot from CD.. so i have to make the bootdisks...

i really don't even need 10.. i just need enough for iptables.. but i can't get the phreakin install.1 to do anything..

i have tried using install.2 after the bare.i to no avail... i don't think the discs are bad.. but has anyone else encountered this phenomenon?

i also tried the sbootmgr.dsk and that just got Disk Error 0x88 or something..

any ideas?

have you tried making another bootdisk with a different floppy?
