MacBook Pro - fdisk: Unable to open /dev/sda

Greetings,

I finally took some time to install Slackware on my MacBook Pro. It is a quite current model that I bought this spring.

I have set up a second partition using Bootcamp, installed rEFIt and booted from a Slackware 13.1 DVD that I downloaded this morning.

When trying to partition the harddrive using fdisk or cfdisk, I get the the following error (fdisk):

Code:
fdisk /dev/sda
Unable to open /dev/sda
"ls /dev/sd*" shows, that there is indeed a device named sda, but neither fdisk nor cfdisk are able to work on it.

A few days ago, I was able to partition the hard drive using parted from a ArchLinux CD without any problems.

I never experienced such a problem using Slackware. Can anyone help?

fdisk -l gives me no output at all.

After some research, I believe that it's an issue with the 2.6.33.4 kernel. The ArchBoot CD uses version 2.6.36.2 and the harddrive is being detected without any problems.

Would love to hear how it goes. I'm looking at installing Slack on a mid-2009 13" MBP. The little research I've done so far says to partition with the OS X tools, so I'm not surprised Slack didn't recognize it. Haven't really looked at file support for the generic/huge kernels, so I wonder if they compiled in support for HFS+.

If your disk is using EFI then this thread may be useful.

fdisk acts funny sometimes. Try cfdisk as well, just in case .....
