LILO settings? No VESA controllers found for ASUS Eeepc 1025C

I ran Slackware current on an ASUS EeePC 2G Surf for years and loved it!
Keyboard and trackpad on that box are wearing out now so I got a good deal on a better one, an EeePC 1025C with a Gig of RAM and a 320 G SDD 'hard drive.'
Very excited to not have the space restrictions I had on that old 2G Surf.

I'm installing Slackware 14 on this new machine but the installer reports no VESA controllers found.
While I can get the new box to boot, the screen blanks about halfway through the bootup process, about the time it usually switches video modes.

I have LILO requesting Normal VGA console with "vga = normal" but it still blanks during bootup. I can't use it like this.

Any ideas?

I reinstalled and set video mode to "vga=ask". This gives me some modes that work and some that don't.

This is enough to get me in the door anyway.

I tried running Slackpkg to update me to current, where I really prefer to be and it tripped up during upgrade-all because the supporting libs were too old. Just trying to upgrade too far, I guess.
I had used Slackware 14 because that's what I had handy, so I downloaded Slackware 14.2 and everything is working MUCH better now!
I even got startx to bring up KDE which is something I could never do on my old 2G Surf!

Please disregard. I now have a whole new Slackware that is handling this new EeePC just fine. Thanks anyway...

As you found, it is not recommended to skip releases when upgrading. If you are interested in running -current, rather than installing 14.2 and then upgrading, you can use Eric's Slackware -current ISOs.

"-current ISOs"?? Goodness!!

Naw, I like having the stable 14.2 to start from if only for historical perspective and to use as a rescue disc. I live for Slackpkg updates!
