Did you remove the CD?
What do you mean they did not boot? Do you get the lilo screen?
When you say 'boot automatically' do you mean by pressing enter at the lilo screen or you don't want to see the lilo screen?
Where did you type 'bare.i root=...' ??
need to see your lilo.conf file.
