kernel 2.6.3 compile time and tgz

Hi All,

Can anyone tell me how long it took you to compile the 2.6 series of kernel? I have a 1.8G P4, I don't want to do it half way and someone in my house wanted to use the pc. Furthermore, how can I make the a tgz package out from the kernel build? I like to keep a succesfully built kernel in tgz form for easy reinstallation. Advance thanks.

well just because its hard for us to state how long it takes, and then you use this info to base it on, i will just suggest you have at least an hour of time for you and your PC
and that should give you a good approximation ...

thanks, that's a good indicator, i give myself 2 hrs then. How about tgz? anyway to make it through checkinstall? Don't want to keep doing compilation if I can make a good one for reuse.
