Talking Installing Slackware v9.1 Can anyone suggest what kernel to install?

Hello everyone, and thank-you for your help, and even more, just for reading this.

I tried installing Slackware v9.1 last night, and amoungst the bewildered looks and the many times I said to myself "I don't know what that is, I'd better install it anyways"... I finally came to the end.

The install was successfull, but rebooting was not. I think I know what the problem is... I'll save that for another post. My point is, I have to reinstall, and I was blown away by all the kernel options.

I chose to install the default one, but I'd really like a more informed opinion from hardened Linux veterans Unless I'm mistaken, kernels are built with different pieces of hardware in mind, right? if I'm wrong, please correct me.

Just in case, here are the specs of my WinBoxen:
AMD Athlon XP 2100+
256MB ram
100GB HD
Gigabyte motherboard (GA-7VAX)
Winfast TV 2000 XP TV-Tuner Card

If not a suggestion of which kernel to install, does anyone know where to point me in the right direction? I got lost looking around for information.

Thank-you for your time,
ElvenAssassin

If your computer successfully booted with the kernel u selected when u booted from Slackware Installation CD1 then there is very high chance this kernel will work fine on your computer.

Which kernel did u use? bare.i works with most computers without problem (unless u have some RAID or specific hardware).

EDIT: You dont have to reinstall whole system if u just want to use another kernel.

I didn't get a successful reboot, but I think that's just because I didn't set that up properly.

I chose the default kernel, that's all I know (Where it said 'If you don't know what you're doing, and you got this far... you probably should stick with the kernel you already have loaded)

In a panic, because my system would not boot into anything at all, I deleted my linux partition and chose to start fresh, but thank you for letting me know that I'd have to do a fresh install, for future reference! I'm sure I'll want to change it eventually.

Well what did u get? Just a blank screen when your computer was supposed to boot linux (this could mean wrong lilo configuration) ?

Hrm, I thought I successfully replied last night.

Yes, I got a blank screen, and I'm assuming that LILO was mis-configured, but I assumed I had BootMagic installed and running, but I hadn't, so I figured I'd make a seperate post about that if things didn't run a second time.
