Installing Slackware Linux 10 (Fresh)

Hi peepz,

Im installing Slackware, but I wanna know which partition I have to make it bootable? Im not sure, and I think I stuffed a few installations up. Do I make my primary (linux swap) bootable, or my logical (linux) bootable? Im only making 2 partitions for now coz I have very little space in my HDD.

Thanks,
Spyiish

In this case you would need the Logical Linux drive as bootable. The Swap drive is used as a temporary file holder... it pretty much acts like ram... only slower.

Hmm...

Do I make the swap as primary and linux ext3 as logical?

What happens if I made linux ext3 as primary bootable, and left swap as logical?

Make you linux partition bootable. NOT swap (It is meant for assisting your comps' physical memory)

As webboss said, your linux ext3 needs bootable.

I think it is more common as you said there that I quoted you above ie linux on primary. But linux can boot from logical as well but once again needs be made bootable whether on primary or on logical.

Swap aids memory when needed that is all that it does, it has no need for boot do not make bootable the swap.

I think 4 primary partitions is the limit for primary partitions.

(you most likely don't need it) but If need LOTS of partitions then a way to do is to create a huge extended to then be divided into X number (2, 3, 4, 5, etc. number) of logical partitions.

But if you don't need that, then don't do it.
