Hi Newtonx, I guess you can't install 11.0? Otherwise I would consider that.

I'm a litte bit confused about what you say on hda -- is it really your sata drive that's been recognized or rather an optical drive?

What have you done to get your mouse working? Are you talking of using the mouse in a graphical (X) environment? If yes, could you please tells us what mouse you have and how your xorg.conf file looks like?

Acer Veriton 6800
80 gig SATA hdd
i cannot install slackware 11.0, i have to use 10.2, Mr. T. (my teacher) won't let me, everything has to work using the sata.i kernel....would it work if i booted the test26.s kernel and installed the sata.i? it has to read /dev/sda but booting the sata.i it reads /dev/hda, i tried
Code:
sata.i root=/dev/sda
it didn't read as /dev/sda still stayed /dev/hda, i know it will work because i watched my teacher do the same thing on the same computer, just with different commands i suppose everything worked with the sata.i kernel, and it read /dev/sda....as for the mouse i realized it didn't work because i booted/installed the test26.s kernel...any ideas on how to get this to work?

I would use the test26.s kernel. BTW, if it is a SATA drive it should be named sdx, I have to admit I don't know why there should be hda instead.
Use the test26.s, I think the mouse issues should be less problem. To get the mouse working you might have to activate the udev daemon. Since it's homework you're asking about (which isn't allowed here ) you should search in the Slackware forum or read in the revised Slackware book to see how this can be done. Probably you will have to configure the X server to use the mouse in graphical environment. Here too some reading will let you solve this without greater hazzles
