Hello,

I tried to figure out what's the problem with gdm, but I was not able to find anything. I'm even wondering if the pb is in gdm. It can also be in gnome-shell configuration, as in fact the login screen is gnome-shell in gdm mode. Or maybe the interaction between the 2 because we are not using the same version of gdm and gnome-shell. Anyway I'm running out of ideas (and skills), I'm giving up. I you make it works, it would be nice, otherwise I'll give a try to another session manager. Slim or lightDM are on my shortlist.

Now regarding python3, I scanned all the dropline executables for python3 and found only gnome-music and accerciser.

As I said in a previous post, to make gnome-music working I have installed the below packages from slackbuilds.org
- https://slackbuilds.org/repository/1...thon/py3cairo/
- https://slackbuilds.org/repository/1...ject3-python3/ (depends on py3cairo)
- https://slackbuilds.org/repository/1...thon-requests/ (also needed for gnome-music)

For accerciser, I made it works with the below modules :
- pyatspi : As I did not find this one anywhere as slackware package and as I was running out of time I took the fedora package python3-pyatspi-2.20.2-1.fc24.noarch.rpm that I have transformed with rpm2tgz. (Yeah I'm not very proud of that but ...)
- ipython : for this one I took the slackbuild https://slackbuilds.org/repository/1...pment/ipython/ which I have modified to build python3 module (instead of python2) and renamed the package as ipython-python3.
- it also depends on pygobject3 like gnome-music.

That's it.

I'll test your new packages soon.

Ok perfect. Many thanks for your work and information. I will try to build the latest gdm, but last time I tried it it was requireing systemd, and one guy one day gave me some patches to make it build without systemd. I have not haad time yet to test that work out.
Will se in the next days if things go well then maybe I can make it go.

For python3 stuff I know it will need a bunch of python2 modules to be recompiled with python3 as the python3 we have right now is just to satisfy the build deps of some software, but its far away from being perfect.

Unfortunately its a lot of things to do for one person alone. Will see what I can push forward and make a release. At the end the desktop is working well here for about 4-5 months already.

Hello Saxa,

Just as a FYI, I succeeded to build gdm version 3.20.1 without systemd using the patches from the funtoo project (https://github.com/funtoo/ports-2012...base/gdm/files). It's working, but unfortunately we still have the same issue as with the 3.16 version, I'm not able to get the users list. Some piece of config should be missing somewhere but I'm not able to figure it out.

Ok, those seem to be the same paches as I have got from that guy I told you before. But for the user list I think its something related to how gdm need to be configured and most probably the pam module it uses.
