Installation KILLED
I can install Slackware 12.0 on my old PC (Penium 133 Mhz with 32 MB of RAM and 2 GB HDD).. BUT! When I select packages to install and run it, sometime installation process is interupt and show me "KILLED".. What`s going on?
And second probleme- I used ext3 file system. 100 MB for Swap and 1900 MB for other. After successfull install system hang up on " No space left on device" But that is incorrect! On my HDD is still free space! Error in ext3? I can use my old computer as FTP server and router my net connection to other PC. What group of software I need? Remember please- I have got HDD with 2 GB of free space :-) and I can`t X KDE, GNOME.. That is not neccessary for me. |
I hate to say this but since I started with Slackware 2.x
the newer version the less usable it is to me. On last Friday I tried to install it but it did not survived reboot... Your second problem (no space) is due to Slackware need more space if you perform full install. I skipped KDE, Emacs, Tex and development section and still got 2GB of files... Therefore I suggest using >=4GB partition and trying again. Regards, Miroslaw |
Your opinion- Try older version? :-)

Try with bigger partition or deselect some stuff.
I would suggest also ZenWalk Linux (based on slackware). Good luck. |

Depending on legacy hardware, you may have to roll back to Slackware 10.2. You can get any of these from this mirror. |
I've been getting this too oddly. After a series of problems unrelated to this, and after one install that said the device has run out of space, it's now doing this to me. I think that the new slackware may just be a little out of older machine's range.
Since my varied problems seemed to all end up being a bad burn that's all I can really suggest to you. |

Legacy has always been a problem. Be it for M$ or GNU/Linux, you can't support something that is not available thus the problem with legacy. Quote:

It can be done, but I admit that it took me a couple of attempts to get the size down. It's not quite as old a machine - Dual P2-450 - tho now with a 320gig sata added to the drives :) I didn't see the need to use an older distro when the current one worked, and I wanted support for the later model sata card chipset. root@gemini:/home/amosf/main# df -h Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/hda1 2.1G 1.5G 507M 75% / /dev/hda6 16G 8.6G 6.9G 56% /home /dev/hdc1 7.8G 7.4G 32M 100% /home/amosf/jason-files /dev/sda1 294G 66G 214G 24% /home/amosf/main |
Hey man!
Very happy by now! I also got this issue with the same hardware as you! For the killed issue, you must activate a swap partition greatter than 256M. This was the only size that fits to me. And about the udev issue, you must pass "nohotplug" as boot paramter! The disavantage is that you will need to load modules by hand! |
