Install woes
I have the 4 .isos of Slackware 9.1....but my computer freezes and sits there for a minute, then auto-reboots if I try and boot straight from CD1...so I got the boot and root disks and tried them. The boot disk works perfectly, so I skip the extra parameter thing, since I don't need any..and it says "Insert root disk for loading into ramdisk" or something like that...so I pop in the root disk, hit enter...it says "Compressed image starting at 0" and reads something from the floppy drive for a good 1-2 mins before it finally just freezes and I have to reboot (it doesn't REALLY freeze..I can hit ctrl+alt+delete and it reboots)
I am using the color.gz on the root, and bare.i on the boot. I'm not exactly sure if I have everything right...so if anyone can help a nub at Linux, I'd appreciate it. My hardware, if it matters: Abit NF7-S 2.0 2500 barton, OCd to 2.2ghz 512mb DDR400 RAM 120GB IDE Maxtor, 7200rpm, 8mb cache Radeon 9600XT If anything else matters, just ask...I really want to start again with Linux. EDIT: Well, I'll just copy this into Installation...*whistles and walks away* |
Well when I had to make these floppies, I used the bare.i and install 1 and install 2..........had to make 3 floppies and did not use color.gz and it worked perfect.......

Color.gz hasn't worked since Slack 4.0 I think. if installing 9.1 you'll need install.1 and install.2. If installing 8.1 you'll need instal.1 - install.5
