How hard is it to upgrade to current from Slack 3.x?

I tried installing from a downloaded version of Slackware and it didn't work. I'm thinking it has to do with the download itself since it has to go thru a burner on a WinBlows machine.

I have a disk of Slack 3.5, but don't know how hard it is to upgrade from there to the current distribution.

What you guys think? Worth a try? Or is there a better option?

I would say it's impossible. In fact, it would be impossible with any Slack older then 8.1 to upgrade to current, because they've changed the package system considerably.

And a downloaded version of Slackware should work, regardless if it was burned on Windows or Linux or something else. The very best option should be to tell us what you've done and why it did not work with the downloaded version of Slackware

I'm not even sure that you could "upgrade" from Slack 3 to Slack current...they're at version 10 now, and even though they skiped a few version numbers along the way there's still a significant difference. For example, the kernel with 3.5 was 2.0.34, and the latest slack ships with 2.4.26/2.6.
Really, I'd suggest downloading the 10.1 ISO's and/or reburning them...it will probably give you a lot fewer headaches :-)

What happened before... It's been a while (I gave up and went with my old Mandrake for a while until I had some more time to look at it) but as I recall I tried four times:
1. Customizing everything including using the bareacpi.i image since I'm installing on a laptop.
2. Going with all defaults except still keeping the bareacpi.i
3. All defaults
4. Customizing a few things and using bareacpi.i
Each time it looked like it worked fine but then couldn't find the installation. Then my son was born and I couldn't take any more time to worry about it. I loaded Mandrake and dealt with it's bloated shortcomings until now.
