Having trouble booting Slackware Linux on my new HP Pavilion ze5400

okay i installed 9.1 from cds i downloaded through bit torrent...

i am a complete newb to Linux and all i really know is what is happening, boots up fine after install but hangs at this point

ohci1394_0: OHCI-1394 1.1 (PCI): IRQ=[11] MMIO=[d0003800-d0003fff] Max Packet=[2048]
usb.c: registered new drivers for usbdevfs
usb.c: registered new drivers for hub
PCI: Enabling device 00:0b.2 (0010 -> 0012)
PCI: Found IRQ 10 for device 00:0b.2
PCI: Sharing IRQ 10 with 00:12.0
ehci_hcd 00:0b.2: VIA Technologies, Inc. USB 2.0

(put in lines above it incase they are important...)

i tried searching for that last line in the forums to see if i could find anything but wasn't able to find anyone with the same problem though i am really sorry if i missed something about this same problem.

any help appreciated, thanks for taking the time to read through this

You probably didn't know this, but the second Slackware cd is a live cd. Just like knoppix, but without gui.

So boot from the second cd. Then chroot into your hard drive and recompile your kernel without usb 2.0. Then it should boot. Then you can try 2.4.23 or 2.6.0, cause it could just be a 2.4.22 bug.

If you have no clue about anything I just said above, this is gonna be a little harder. Are you dual booting or just posting from another computer?

EDIT:
Also, I have a laptop just like yours(hp ze4325). Mines an athlon XP 2000+. Im assuming yours is a Pentium 4. So maybe I could just create a kernel config for you and tell you what commands to give. Since I know pretty much your chipset and network card, etc. Plus, does yours have built-in wireless? or do you use wireless? Just asking.

ok, well download a live cd. bbc linux is small and has a bittorent link. http://sourceforge.net/project/stats/?group_id=95278

It's only 50 megs or so. You can use that to boot into an environment.

k, summing up the answers to the questions you have asked so far:
I am attempting to dual boot Linux and Windows XP using the lilo booting, i installed Windows XP first then installed Slackware 9.1, then put lilo into the MBR and let it detect the two different OSes, i can boot XP no problem, though Linux is giving the above problem, i later plan to have a DOS 6 boot and have 1 gig of my hard drive partitioned and ready, just trying to get linux working perfectly before i move on to that...
though i am not using the windows XP boot on that comp to post on here i am using another computer of mine which is soely windows XP

mine does not have a built in wireless

hmmmm, I wish I had more time to talk. I have to get up in the morning. 11:00 here. But if you can get a boot disk to get into an environment, edit lilo to do "nousb" and I believe it won't load usb. I've never really dealt with this before though. It's not going to happend immediately but we'll get it working.

As well. While im gone. Go here, find your laptop, and see if anyone else had the same problem. http://tuxmobil.com/hp.html

Interactive boot-up is a RedHat thing. No other distro does it.
Hmmmm, well did bbc boot for you? Do you have any usb things plugged in while it's booting?

bbc hung at

Partition check:
/dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0: _

the _ is a blinking cursor...
then it freezes at that point

and i have no usb devices plugged in during boot up, have also tried to put in the nofirewire command, and i tried disabling legacy USB in my bios... completely without any ideas at this point, =/

Edit: for trying the nofirewire command i just booted off of the second Slackware CD which produces the same error as my hard drive install, and then i typed 'bare.i nofirewire' for booting...
