gnome 2.6 annoyances

hello,

I upgraded (reinstalled) from Slackware 9 to 10, so from Gnome 2.2 to 2.6
When X is started Gnome now always comes up with resolution 1280x1024, no matter what resolution is set in /etc/X11/xorg.conf. The screen resolution configuration option in the Gnome menu doesn't work either after I re-login (after saving the session).
Gnome 2.2 seemed notably faster than 2.6 is this due to scrollkeeper?
My scrollmouse works and sometimes not on the next login, haven't figured out yet what causes this idiosyncratic behaviour.
Any clues what I am doing wrong.

Regards,

Kristian
