fdisk partition type question
Here's my question, I am running fdisk and I want to leave a partition open for LFS, but it needs to be an ext2 partition. Is that the same as the hex code 81(MINIX/old LINUX)?

Nevermind. I just figured it out.

Hi,
Could you post the answer? Might be useful for someone doing a search someday. John |
aperently not..

I believe that if you set up a partition as type 83 (Linux) you can format as either ext2, ext3, or reiserfs. I've never tried using type 81 (Minix), but think it would be unlikely that there would be be much demand for a Minix file system structure. If I were the original poster, I'd just leave the partition unformatted, until the point he/she was installing LFS. -- J.W.

J.W. you are correct. Linux partition type 83 is the 'native linux' partition. This is what is used for ext2, ext3, jfs, resierfs and xfs. Type 82 is for swap partitions. Minix is hardly ever used any more, only on some very old floppy-based rescue distros.
