Dell ALPS DualPoint Touchpad middle scroll

I just installed slackware 14 on my dell precision 4400 with an nvidia graphics card.

It recognizes the pointing stick, but I cannot scroll using the middle mouse button while holding the pointing stick.

I was looking for a touchpad option under mouse, but there is none.
Also, I see the synaptics package installed under /var/log/packages.

Note that I am using the nouveau open source driver for nvidia.

How can I get the middle scrolling to work? Please let me know if I can provide any additional information on my system's configuration.

Thanks.

Solution:

xinput set-prop "DualTouch" "Evdev Wheel Emulation" 1
xinput set-prop "DualTouch" "Evdev Wheel Emulation Button" 2
xinput set-prop "DualTouch" "Evdev Wheel Emulation Timeout" 200
xinput set-prop "DualTouch" "Evdev Wheel Emulation Axes" 6 7 4 5

I put the above lines in .bash_login.
Depending on the distro, putting them in .xinitrc works, but that didnt work for me.
