Cyrillic support for X in Slackware Current (base 9.1.)

Hello board...
I am not such a newbie, but this problem scared the sh*t out of me.

I have successfully installed Slackware 9.1 release and had almost no problems with the Cyrillic support. Both KDE and GNOME had support for Cyrillic. Mozilla like always had none (Cyrillic pages had no content or content was squares).

I had to try Slackware current. I needed to show, that upgrade is available for Slack.

I got a friend to supply a more recent version of Slack Current (as of May 5).

Install went OK, X setup went OK (I was quite happy to see that ATI Radeon 9200 worked without having the proprietary driver installed).
However the distro lacked ANY support for Cyrillic. KDE showed only boxes instead of Cyrillic symbols, and GNOME showed boxes with UTF-16 character code (04xy). "xfontsel" shows 41 KOI8-R encoded fonts, and a 100 ISO9...-5 encoded fonts.

I can't actually remember what GNOME app I used, but there is a GNOME font viewer/selector, that also shows unicode-boxes instead of symbols.

Am I doing something wrong?
Is Slackware Current lacking the Cyrillic support?
Will next Slackware release contain Cyrillic support?

Please answer.
