My CD player is acting up, it was quite a cheap one and I probably knocked it about at some stage.
But I have the v12.1 dvd iso on hardisk, so it should be possible to install it by mounting the iso (-o loop), copying over files onto a brand new partition, and then do some changes to fstab and grub.
Has anybody done it this way? Is it as simple as I'm imagining, or are there some gotchas/showstoppers?
full credit to the original writers for putting it down, though I have to admit I might have to read them several times .. it's just sometimes I find comprehending instructions can sometimes be slower than just experimenting and fumbling towards the solution. So I don't know if I'm going to use them.

Thanks anyway!
