Can't get much farther than LILO

I just installed Slackware 9.1, and it seemed fine at first, as I adequately got through the install itself, but when I rebooted the system, I received the following error after selecting Linux in the LILO boot manager. I do not dual boot, if that is important and my partitions table contains only two entries; swap and /.

Code:

VFS: Cannot open root device "202" or 2:02
Please append a correct "root=" boot option
Kernel Panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 2:02

I googled it some and looked through the Slackware docs on slackware.org and wasn't able to find much of an answer. I tried using the boot disk and then manually mounting the root filesystem as suggested in the Slackware FAQ on slackware.org, by doing:

Code:

mount root=/dev/hda1
But that didn't work either. Any help is appreciated greatly.

Did you explicitly pass a Root directive in liloconfig during the install (or the correct device name)? - post the contents of your lilo.conf file and the output of

fdisk -l

I was looking through my /etc directory, actually it took a couple times for me to, but I realized that there was no lilo.conf to be found. So I reinstalled LILO and everything is fine now. Thanks for the response though.
