Unhappy Can't logon new Slackware install

First, I am new to Slackware. I installed slackware 13.1 on my old pentium 4 pc. The installation had no problems. After the install was completed I rebooted. The system cycled glitch free. FYI, I called the install omi. So..... I got the prompt:

omi login:

Stuck here. I am not sure how to proceed. My cl skills are limited. Did I miss something in the setup where a user id needed to be created? Or is it something else?

Thanks

You entered a root password. At first boot, only the root account has been setup. So you would enter
Code:
root
as the login and then enter the password you chose during the install.

Thanks. That got me to the root@omi: cl prompt. How to I boot into the KDE Desktop? I assumed it would have done so after the log in. That part of the install was not too clear. I have been using #!crunchbang linux (Statler Openbox ) that has not been to hard to get around. I guess Slackware requires more linux savy from the user.

To get into KDE just type
Code:
startx
assuming you chose kde as the default during the install. Otherwise it's
Code:
startx /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.kde
This last one can start any of the DE/WM's substituting their name where it says kde. To get the machine to boot directly into a gui you have to tell it to boot into runlevel 4. You do that by editing /etc/inittab and changing
Code:
# Default runlevel. (Do not set to 0 or 6)
id:3:initdefault:
to be
Code:
# Default runlevel. (Do not set to 0 or 6)
id:4:initdefault:

Thanks damgar. I was just researching it in the slackware linux essentials page. I did select kde as the desktop so all I needed to do, according to the manual, was start x-did not say how though! KDE is sluggish on the pentium 4. The system only has 1 gb ram. Seems to run like your using a live cd. I wonder if XFCE would use less resources. I'll have to check it out.

XFCE will be much quicker. Fluxbox will be awesome, but it takes a little (a lot) of getting used to. To change the default DE run
Code:
xwmconfig
