trying to upgrade my cousin's computer from 12.1 to 13.37 but can't get the internet to work. works fine with 12.1, /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.config is identical on both systems. the atl2 module for the internet adapter is loaded on both. In a long shot I tried upgrading the kernel from testing and that didn't help. what else should I check. (put 13.37 on three other computers with no problem).
ifconfig eth0 up and /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 give no error message when entered at the command prompt.
Are you able to ping any IP addresses (start with the router, and then a known Internet IP, like 4.4.4.4)? It could be a DNS issue, which would be configured in /etc/resolv.conf. Possibly a routing issue as well, check the output of "route".
Failing that, do the system logs mention anything odd about the "atl2" module?
thanks - is no router just a dsl modem. have been trying to connect with lynx. think I did check the logs but will check again next time I sit at that computer.
got back to this computer - thought I would check the logs.
logged in in text mode (dmesg gave me some local IP's to check (192.168.1.1 and 1.2) both pinged successfully. did startx and connected with lynx there also. rebooted to see if it still works witch it does. Had made no changes so wonder how the machine fixed itself.
will try a couple more times before I make 13.37 the default boot for my cousin.
thanks - have filed that idea with my notes. think I will try running 13.37 with the expectation that it keep working. If not will look at ModemManager.
