boot problem

Hi,

I'm new to Linux, and I cannot boot after installing Slack 10. Below are my partitions and /etc/lilo.conf:

/dev/hda1 bootable /boot Linux
/dev/hda2 / Linux
/dev/hda3 /swamp Linux swamp
/dev/hda5 /usr Linux
/dev/hda6 /home Linux

/etc/lilo.conf
boot=/dev/hda
vga=773
image=/boot/vmlinuz
root=/dev/hda2
label=slace2426
read-only

I installed Lilo to the MBR. I don't know where I did wrong. Any advice?

Thank you.

Here's the error message:

Pri Master HDD error
Slave Master HDD error
Run Setup
Press F1 to Resume

When I press F1, then
Searching for Boot Record from CD Rom..not Found
Search for Boot Record from Floppy..not Found
Search for Boot Record from SCSI.. not found

Drive not Ready
Insert Boot disktette in A:
Press any key when ready

My boot sequence in BIOS is CD ROM, HDD-0, Floppy and then Other.

I refreshed my BIOS and now I can boot. But I cannot boot to KDE; what I have is a "darkstar login:" prompt. What should I do?

Login as root. Create a new account with ¨adduser¨ . Then you could have a graphical login with kde, using ¨kdm¨.

Thanks for your reply.

I was able to log in as root, but before I did anything, I was immediately logged out, and back to the darkstar login prompt. How do I fix this?

This seems very strange. Are you sure you´ve correctly logged in? What exactly are the prompt messages?

I have reinstalled Slack 10 and everything seems to be OK now.

Thanks for this forum, especially for those who have posted to help me out.

May all of you be well and happy!
