boot kernel problems on Poweredge2300

I have a dell poweredge 2300 server with on board raid controller and SCSI drives. I am having trouble getting the installation going. I can boot with the raid.s kernel so that I can recognize my logical drive, but If I do that I loose support for my SCSI cdrom so I can't use the cd as the source for the cdrom. I can also boot with xfs.s and that will give me cdrom support but then I loose support for my drives. My server does not have an ide controller so installing from an ide cdrom is not an option.
Is there a way for me to get the best of both worlds out of these to kernels. I need raid and SCSI support. I have tried several other kernels and raid.s is the only one that will recognize my raid controller.
I would like it if I could somehow create a custom boot kernel because I have three of these server laying around and would like to have linux on them.
I saw a similar thread to this but no solution was given other than to try to find an ide controller.
Any help that you could give me would be much appreciated.

Just out of curiosity ... how's the SCSI chain(s) set-up?

Is the CDROM on the same cable as the HDD's that form
the RAID, or on a seperate channel? If it's NOT seperate,
try to put it on a chain by itself.

Cheers,
Tink
