boot crash caused by "cs"
hi. i have been experiencing a persistent boot error with my newly installed slackware 12 during the last week or so. no one could solve the problem in irc.freenode.org##slackware, or maybe i'm only not able to follow their advices. so i decided to post a phenomenoligical error description here:
an as of yet unknown module or application which identifies itself as "cs" always crashes when i try to boot from hd after installing the new slackware 12.0 from dvd. however, the minimal boot from dvd still works, so i can make changes in configuration files. someone told me that "cs" might have something to do with pcmcia, but blacklisting "cs" or "pcmcia" in the "blacklist" file (some directory below etc) or disabling pcmcia.rc with "chmod -x" in /etc/rc.d seemingly had no effect, not even on pcmcia. i have to admit that i dont really understand how "blacklisting" works nor what its for. i think there already are modules "csX" blacklisted in the blacklist file, where X is some two or three digit number
the last four lines i always get on the screen before the system halts look roughly like the following
pcmcia: (doing something)... done
cs: probing IO ports (value1-value2)... done
cs: probing IO ports (value3-value4)... done
cs: probing IO ports 0x800-0x8ff...
if you would like to see these lines more exactly, i can look it up.
appreciating any suggestions
