14.1 Install on a Thinkpad W530.... where is elilo; fdisk and cgdisk discrepancies

Hi,
I have just run a trial install of Slackware 14.1 on my Thinkpad W530
using a spare 320GB drive.

An observation or n

1. In order to get any screen output when booting the install DVD, I had to
enable the Integrated Graphics only AND run the KMS build ... no sweat
but it took a few tries to get there.

2. Using fdisk my harddrive has a reported capacity of 320G
Using cgdisk it has a reported capacity of 298G ... anyone know why?

3. I cannot find the elilo binary or man pages on my installed system.

I have now put the 14.1 system aside .... tired, bedtime is here ...
rule 16B ... do not attempt a new install after 11:30 pm :-)

Try some more tomorrow

cheers
pete

Hi:

I'm not sure why you have a 22 gigabyte discrepancy/difference.
Maybe a member that is running Slackware will chime in.

I am guessing I (think) perhaps that 22 gig's is allocated to a Recovery partiton? Perhaps or maybe some other type of feature that the manufacturer put on the Thinkpad- (hidden partition)?

I found a few links in regard to disk partition discrepancies-

http://www.techrepublic.com/forums/q...e-discrepancy/
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...repancy-62644/
http://askubuntu.com/questions/48488...-discrepancies

About your man pages:
Code:
man-pages-3.53-noarch-1.txz
http://packages.slackware.com/

For man to work you need to have 'groff' installed from the /a or /ap series-

fdisk reports the capacity in Gigabyte (1 GB=1000^3), while cgdisk reports it in Gibibyte (1 GiB=1024^3)
