ZTE usb Modem
 

Hi every one, I have a ZTE USB modem MF627 and I want to know how tu use it in slackware.

Is wvdial or kppp needed?

Slackware64 13.1 don't have already all the program necessary?

First - I have NO personal experience with this device.

The good news is that there are entries for this device in /lib/udev/rules.d/40-usb_modeswitch.rules and /etc/usb_modeswitch.d/19d2:2000 in Slackware64-13.1

I would try using kppp with *99# as the number to dial. You may have to try different devices ttyUSBx (where x is a number likely to be 0 to 3) for the modem until you actually find the modem port. The output of 'dmesg' will help with finding the correct device name.
Also you will need to provide information from your ISP about your connection (such as username, password, connection method) to kppp.

If you did a full Slackware install, then you do have kppp. You do not need to be running KDE to use kppp. I have successfully used kppp from within the Windowmaker environment, but I did find that I needed to complete the setup of kppp from within KDE first.

I didn't install KDE.

As kppp is essentially a graphical frontend to pppd, then you can set up to use pppd. See 'man pppd' for further details.
The nice thing about kppp is it does help with getting things going. Perhaps you should consider installing a few KDE packages so that you can use kppp (kdebase, kdelibs, kdebase-runtime, kdebase-workspace, kdenetwork should provide all the support you need).
