Zone Masks

Greetings all,

This is an off-topic post, for the photographers among you who use GIMP in post-processing.

You may be aware of Luminosity Masks as a technique to adjust selections of similar tones in a self-feathering way. Zone Masks is a development on this that ties Luminosity Masks with the Zone System of Ansel Adams. Both Luminosity and Zone Masks were developed for Photoshop. An active member of the GIMP community, Pat David, "ported" Luminosity Masks to GIMP. My search came up with no such port for Zone Masks, so in trying to make them I ended up with a longish write-up and a python plugin. Here's the link, for the more patient among you :-)

Have fun,
pdi
