Zombie attack
After the latest upgrade I'm getting allot of zombies:
amarokcollectio many instances
kres-migrator
python
kmix
knotes
amarok
kmail
nepomukservices
everything is working though, except perhaps amarok, it's not able to show my collections, but can play files.

maybe deleting the kde config dirs will help.

Have you tried:
# killall -s 9 amarokcollectio
or
# killall -s 9 amarokcollection
Or you can just kill the parent process. To know the parent process do:
# pstree -A -H<one of the pids>
or
# cat /proc/<one of the pids>/stat | cut -d ' ' -f 4

Amarok failing to read the collection seems common, and down to a problem with embedded MySQL, apparently usually solved by installing MySQL, or if you already have it, deleting any ~/.my.cnf file. I found I just needed to remove the "database" entry from ~/.my.cnf, now amarok scans my collection OK.
I didn't have a problem with zombies though - just a few crashes.

I upgraded nvidia from 180.35 to 180,37, that solved the zombie problem

I installed mysql, deleted all database files and watched amarok create them when searching, but they have not been populated yet.
oh well,

Ok, the amarok issue is that amarok no longer supports special characters, changing dir names to ascii and it scans the collection.

Special characters and amarok2

Do you have more info or a link on that?
My collection is scanned ok and shows up in the library, but amarok2 indeed refuses to play files with special characters in their name.
FWIW, I get the following error message when attempting to play a mp3 with special characters:
Code:
QString::arg: Argument missing: Amarok - No track playing., 0:00
Googling only offers some links to Russian sites, so I guess they face the same problem.
I hope someone comes up with a fix for this!
Cheers, Leon.

According to the
Amarok Forum (posted March 02, 2009):
Code:
There was a bug in Phonon with it refusing to play tracks with certain characters in the path.
Has been fixed recently, so stay tuned for Phonon/KDE updates :)

This is happening with Dolphin to, it claims directories don't exist if they have special chars. edit: this is when following softlinks, but it worked in previous versions./edit
konqueror works fine though.
I tried to rename some mp3 and wav files, and I can play them without problem with amarok 2

No problems with Dolphin here. Files and softlinks with special characters behave as expected.
