Exclamation X Server->Keyboard Problems[Solved]->Display Problems

Hi,
My first post at the forum, probably the first question too.

Actually, I am a Linux newbie and bitten by Linux bug. I want to build a customized Linux system from ground-up.

-> I have installed a copy of zipslack (Slackware 11.0) on to my harddisk. I am able to boot into it and use it.

-> I have installed and configured a copy of "X Server" available at the Slackware site.

-> I have installed the Slackware D (development) and Slackware L (libraries).

?? Whenever I start the X Server, I am not able to use my keyboard, only the "Enter", "Space", "Capslock" keys are working at the Xterm. What should be the problem.

-> Probably I configured the keyboard wrongly, now the keyboard is working fine.

?? On starting the X Server at any resolution, the display is only on the top-left corner of the screen. I cannot move any window, moreover new windows of xcalc, xterm, xclipboard etc. overlap over the exiting window.
What could be the problem.

?? Next can anyone tell me how to compile and install, "XFCE" on a Zipslack.

Thanks in advance,
Bye!

You should run xorgconfig to configure X properly.
You should be able to use the xfce that comes with slackware, but make sure you have GTK2, glib2, atk, pango and cairo installed.
Since you have installed zipslack you will be missing a few header files which may be necessary for compiling some programs. The standard packages do contain these files so usually just reinstalling the package fixes it - ncurses is one in particular that I remember that needed to be reinstalled.
