your favourite MPD client?

Title says it all. After a recent LAN party, my MP3 collection has gone from about 11,000 songs or so to almost 17,000 songs. I use mpd for music, because I like the fact that it plays without needing a client open. I use two clients for it... the first, mpc, is for shortcuts on one of my desklet bars. That works fine. The second that I have been using is Glurp. I like it, it's simple, relatively fast, and it doesn't have any dependancies on stuff that I have no intention of ever installing on my laptop, like KDE or Gnome.

The thing is... with over 16,000 songs in the playlist (on random), Glurp crashes. mpc is a little slow on loading the playlist, but everything else (play/pause, fast forward, previous) works fine. Glurp is crashing long before the 120-second timeout that I've set in the config.

Anyway... rather than try to troubleshoot Glurp, I'm just going to ask for suggestions on what mpd clients people are using. I'm going to have to report it as a bug to the Glurp people, as I think it's a variable size thing. Meanwhile, what is everybody else using?

.... and no, I'm not going to consider switching to another music player, unless it also runs as a daemon without needing a client open to play. :)

I mostly use ncmpc and gmpc (mpc for shortcut/scripts stuff). I like the tray icon, the pop up thingy displaying info on song change and mouse over. The latest 0.12.0 version also has some nice additions like tag/stream browser. And it can be built without gnome support.

xmms2 is making progress. juxtapose is a nice client. slow though.
moc is also sort of server/client based. but the client list is limited to itself(console based).

With so many songs, you should consider streaming your mp3. I use Icecast and can listen to my stream with any player I like (xmms, zinf, mpg123). No problems with slow starts of the mp3 player since it is a continuous stream.
There are several frontends available to Icecast that let you have control over the Icecast playlist. For instance, I use Otto which I customized a lot.

Cheers, Eric

I use kmp. It built cleanly for me, but then I also have KDE installed. All it should require to build is QT, though.

I also use phpmpd2, one of the web front ends listed from their page.
