"You do not have permission to write to partition table?" as root?

OK, I am lost on this one totally! I resized my 250 gig hdd with partition magic 8 so that I could have my slack back since my other pc went and took a pot on me. Well, being over ten years of age, sometimes they do this! Anywho, my condition is this, I ran magic, set up a partition for slackware, along with it's slack, and a very small amount more just for added measure! Now, I pop the first Slack cd in, run through the basics, get down to sign in as root, I do so!, then it is either do fdisk, cfdisk, or setup, if the disk is formatted in which I have found a way to do that and that has added another problem I will address on another topic! for now to stay on this one if you go fdisk or cfdisk it gives me error: you do not have permission to access drive; you do not have write access! Without write access, I cannott install my Slackware, and I NEED MY SLACKWARE PEOPLE, i am losing it~~~~!!!!!!

wich permissions does /dev/[sh]da have? May be there is a missconfiguration there....

I am not sure, I can not even get that far to configure that, I can not get the permissions needed by the hard drive it seems. Why would I not be able to get permissions from my hard drive? Even when trying different kernels it gives me the same error, I've tried I think all the different kernels to my knowledge since last night, been up all night tinkering with this issue! Even tried a full install over my Winbloze XP and could not do it because the permissions error! BTW, I did try just to see, dl ubuntu linux and installed it just fine and it runs just fine as a dual boot system with winbloze xp on my system? The only problem is this, I don't want ubuntu linux, I really really really love my slackware and want my slackware I don't care what peoples opinions are about it! lol, I just want, I mean I REALLY WANT MY SLACK! JUST GIVE ME SOME SLACK! PLEASE! LOL! Thx way in advance!
