Yet again, another sound problem
i have slackware installed with the 2.6 kernal, i have alsa and all that enabled, but my computer just does not recognise my sound card. i know it works, because i used to run debian on my machine and it worked then, but recently switched to slackware and has not worked since then. any advice or suggestions would be helpful. ive checked that the sound cables are plugged in and there all in the right slots. thanks.

You may need to enable a module or include it in a new compilation of your kernel.
I suggest upgrading to the newest kernel version. EDIT: (You say you have 2.6, but you weren't more specific. It's up to 2.6.11.7 now.) http://www.freeos.com/articles/2589/ Make sure you configure it, and include modules that are needed to support your sound card. And if the kernel just doesn't support your sound card (it should), then you need to hit up google for Linux-compatible drivers for that sound card. |
Could you post the output of lspci and lsmod, please?

never mind, i found out what it was and its fixed. i hadn't set up my alsa properly, thanks for the advice anyway
