xwmconfig Microsoft Virtual PC

Hello.

I have installed SW 11.0 on Microsoft Virtual PC (would have used VMware if Vista actually supported it!).

Anyway, the install was fine. I am now trying to configure X by using xorgconfig. It doesnt seem to matter how I configure X, launching KDE still fails - usually because no screen was found. I did try using xorgsetup but it did not detect my mouse and I get "failed to initialize core devices".

Just wondered if anyone had installed SW on MS Virtual PC. I have a new Nvidea GeForce 8800 Graphics Card so not sure if this is the problem (as not sure what card to choose from the card library)

Any help would be appreciated. Watched a fantastic documentary on the history of linux and I really want to get back into it

Thanks,

Ret

I've done it, it works, but slower than a native install of course.

Search Virtual PC Help index for emulated devices, the video card is S3 Trio.

I used
Code:
# xorgcfg -textmode
to configure the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and used vi to make any tweak adjustments.

Which version of Virtual PC are you using? If it's Virtual PC 2004, make sure you install SP1 for it. I had a problem with video not loading from Fedora and another distribution, searched a couple of forums, and SP1 seemed to be the fix, even on mine.

The performance of Virtual PC is great on a laptop with Centrino Duo.

Dont bother with Virtual PC 2007, as it's more limited and only supports running 1 VM at a time.
